In the wake of the tragic murder of 64-year-old Nombeko by her son, the community is reflecting on her life and the impact of her loss. Nombeko, a respected Technical Phone Official at Walter Sisulu University (WSU), was known for her kindness and dedication. The case has sparked profound grief and concern among those who knew her.
Khaya Thonjeni, the former Head of Production at Unitra Community Radio and now with Isebe Loze Sipolisa, spoke out about the tragedy. He expressed his deep sorrow and outrage over the brutal nature of the crime, emphasizing the unacceptable violence that led to Nombeko’s death.
“It’s unfortunate that women in South Africa continue to face such horrific violence,” Thonjeni said. “This act was not only gruesome but barbaric. It is something we’ve never heard of, and it will never be acceptable. Even if drugs are a factor, it is crucial for people to take responsibility.”
Thonjeni fondly remembered Nombeko’s contributions to Unitra Community Radio, where she was known for her supportive and helpful nature. “Nombeko was always there to assist us. She made things possible and was a true asset to our team,” he recalled. “She was not only helpful to us but also to the students. Her good character and willingness to assist made her a beloved figure.”
He concluded with a heartfelt tribute: “Nombeko was a lovely South African woman who will be deeply missed for her kindness and her generous spirit. Her loss is felt profoundly by all who knew her.”
As the investigation into this tragic event continues, the community remains in mourning, remembering Nombeko for her positive contributions and unwavering support.
